After the introduction of wool
into the country by the Colonial Spanish, the natives in the
cold regions of Mexico developed an especial fondness for wool
rugs that has only been accentuated with time. During modern
times, using the Persian technique of knots, fine rugs have been
produced that have attained international attention for their
original designs and quality finishing. We hand pick these, for
our clients, from the workshops of Temoaya, in the State of Mexico.
Not that many are produced per artisan per month, they are very
well made and time consuming; they are true works of art however
we can get the rugs for you in many sizes, E-mail us your details. |

More common and easier to
obtain are the traditional 'throw' rugs from the cities of San
Miguel de Allende, Zitacuaro, Gualupita, Saltillo, Chiconcuac,
Teotitlan and various villages from the State of Tlaxcala.
These designs typically reflect
the Indian heritage of Mexico and are often used for bed coverings
and wall tapestries. They come in all sizes, patterns and colors
and coarseness of weave and in cotton, wool and wool/acrylic
blends. These same items are also popular as traditional Sarapes. |
