MEXICO ARTS AND CRAFTS
Cut-Out Paper ~ Papel Picado
(back to Paper heading)

Cut-Out Paper items come from numerous parts of Mexico. It is one of the artisan traditions acquired during Spanish Colonial days. Colored tissue paper is cut out with scissors to make table cloths, place settings, napkins, small flags and garlands. The pieces remind one of lace in their delicate designs and are seen in homes throughout Mexico.
