masks, decorative figures, religious imagery and many, many objects
for daily use such as spoons, cocoa beaters, bowls of all types
and plates - to name just a few items. |

The village of Cuanajo is famous
for its production of carved pine wood furniture whose pieces
match any decoration style because of their simplicity and elegance.
They may be purchased in their natural color or lacquered in
pastel colors. The chairs may have turned legs with carved backs
to a matching simple table design with or without carved sides
and top while the matching love seat may be lavisciously adorned
with images; it is all up to the imagination of the craftsman. |

In Michoacan, artisans make not
only carved wooden furniture but doors, chests, screens and pillars
all profusely carved and filled with flowery, celestial and earthly
motifs. Many of the parlor pieces are 'native' by design allowing
one to create a 'Western' look in their setting. Pieces are typically
delivered 'raw' or with a light varnish to accent the natural
color or painted or stained in the artisan's favorite native

from tree limbs or rich sculptures from hard woods. We wish we
