Reed Baskets are produced in
all parts of Mexico, so their variety of design is very extensive.
We procure our Reed Baskets from the States of Oaxaca, San Luis
Potosi, Hidalgo, Michoacan, Veracruz, Puebla, Guanajuato and
Guerrero. Like other basketcraft in the country, their heritage
is as old as the land. Without question, each piece is hand crafted
as the reed is gathered and worked in true traditional fashion.
Reed items are more durable than it might seem; because of its
rigidity, reed has always been used to manufacture containers
for household use. |

After collecting the reed from
the river and lagoon beds, it is cleaned and soaked to make it
sufficiently flexible to be woven. Using only their hands as
tools, artisans shape reed according to their need and creative
inventiveness. |
