Fine cotton linens, with fine
openwork, delicate as gauze, from the States of Zacatecas, Aquascalientes
and Michoacan, are ideal to adorn tables, trays and breadbaskets
whereas the work from Hidalgo is typically more festive. When
they are more longer and narrower than rectangular, they are
called Table Covers and when made out of wool called Table Tapestries.

Table Tapestries are a custom
in Mexico, they are placed on entry and hall tables and in the
center of the family dining table when placemats are used for
daily meals.
It is common for Table Tapestries
to be the host for decorative bowls, flower vases, candle sets
and napkin holders. They typically are of fine weave wool fabric
and narrower in width though are just as common in fine cottons
and are also available in satin.
Those produced in the States
of Oaxaca and Mexico are profusely embroidered and from Chiapas
