Even today, the spindle and waist loom, of Pre Columbian origin,
are used to manufacture native clothing. From earliest times,
the art of weaving was a gift thought to be bestowed by the gods
upon women and thus honored with many rituals and ceremonies.
Here in Mexico, the influence of outside styles brought by big
department stores has not changed native traditional clothing
styles nor their methods of manufacture. |

In many areas, native artisans
still use vegetable and mineral pigments to dye fibers. Other
natural dye sources include dyes extracted from the cochineal
and that produced by the purple shellfish. It is not exaggerating to say that
even with the many sources of native textiles in Mexico, no two
clothing items are alike. |

comes from the Indian and coastal regions of Mexico where production,
designs, and wearing of the clothes they make is part of tradition,
identity and daily life. One thing to note, from region to region,
prices vary incredibly and that is a function of the amount of

items are very popular. The 100% cotton cover-ups and blouses
are extremely popular as they are casual yet delightfully tasteful.
Blouses match very well with jeans for the formal yet simple
look and you will see the cover-ups around the pool everywhere
in the south and west and they are perfect when worn with sandals
for shopping and around the house; and the embroidered dresses
are great for casual evening parties.
